The former primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Rev. Joseph Abiodun Adetiloye, died in the early hours of Friday morning at the age of 82 years. He died at his residence in Odo-Owa in Ijero Local Government Area of Ekiti State. Joseph Abiodun Adetiloye was the second Archbishop and Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion). He was born on 25 December, 1929 in Odo-Owa, Ekiti State. His father was a polygamist, who could prescribe herbs for treatment and cure illnesses. His father died in 1932 when Abiodun was only three years.
After a taste of ministry in 1951 in Melville Hall (Anglican Training College), Kudeti, Ibadan, in Oyo State, he became a Deacon in 1953 and served as a curate at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Ake, Abeokuta from 1953 to 1956, when he left for England for further studies. He became the second Archbishop and Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) in 1988, the position he held until he retired from active service in December 1999.
