2FACE IDIBIA AND THE HYPOCRITES

It is sad the way and manner many Nigerians have turned everything in this country into politics! The just concluded "Walk Against Bad Governance" which was originally planned to be led by 2Face Idibia until he backtracked at the last minute was turned into a campaign of calumny against his person and character. The mischief makers who visited many radio and television stations or called in via telephone during live programmes said 2Face had no moral rectitude to protest against the President Muhammadu Buhari led federal government because he (2Face) benefited enormously from the previous PDP led government.

But what is the crime of 2Face for which he was denigrated by these holier than-thou Nigerians? According to these spotless and saintly Nigerians, 2Face received a car gift from the former governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio during his wedding! No group of persons can be more hypocritical than this class of Nigerians because I have not seen where gifts received by a groom during his wedding become the proceeds of crime! This group of Nigerians said before 2Face could have the moral right to lead the walk against bad governance, he should return the car gift to Chief Godswill Akpabio! Is this not hypocrisy in the highest magnitude? Didn't these saintly Nigerians who are blaming 2Face for receiving the car gift receive gifts during their own wedding? When has receiving gifts during wedding become a crime?

It is needed to state that 2Baba only accepted the car gift as a mark of respect for Chief Godswill Akpabio and not as a result of poverty like his critics who received all manners of gifts during their wedding because they are poor! As we all know, 2Baba is the richest musician in the country at the moment and he can afford any brand of car any time any day.

Those who asked 2Face to return the car gift to Chief Godswill Akpabio were only playing to the gallery! They should return the gifts they received during their wedding to their donors before they can have the right to accuse 2Face of any wrong doing. To a large extent, these accusers of 2Face only wanted to be noticed by President Muhammadu Buhari. They are mere appointment seekers but President Muhammadu Buhari that I know will never give them appointments because he has not finished appointing his kinsmen who are the only competent people he can work with! Again, President Buhari couldn’t recognise these appointment seekers because he is taking care of his in a far-away hospital in London!

For the sake of clarity, the walk was not even targeted against the President Buhari led federal government but against bad governance that has been the bane of development of the country since independence! Again, what if the walk was targeted against the government of President Buhari? Has the country not been on a reverse gear since Buhari assumed office almost two years ago? If certain undiscerning Nigerians could protest against the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan over the prices of kerosene at N120, petrol at N97, diesel at N150 per litre, gas at N3,000, a bag of rice at N7,000 etc. because certain politicians in the then opposition political party, donated N7.5 MILLION to feed them during the protest why can’t other Nigerians protest against the government of President Muhammadu Buhari now that the prices of these items have skyrocketed? Today, a litre of kerosene, petrol, diesel sells for as much as N500, N145 and N400 respectively! Additionally, a bag of rice that hitherto sold for N7,000 now sells for N25,000, yet those Nigerians who are profiteering from this directionless government say other Nigerians who are feeling the pains shouldn’t protest!

 Could it be that these Nigerians were against 2Baba’s protest because the current opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) refused to donate N7.5 MILLION to feed them during the protest? If it is not so, how could they have protested against the government of former President Jonathan when the prices of goods and services were cheap and life was also more enjoyable than what we have now and yet they are not willing to protest against a government that has brought pains, sufferings, anguish, ageing, untimely death etc. to them? Go around major cities of Nigeria and see how millions of Nigerians are wearing mournful faces and grey hairs like men and women who have attained the centenary age!

Those who cast aspersions on 2Face for wanting to lead the walk against bad governance didn’t do well at all! They are mere hailers and praise singers of this government but right there in their homes, they are languishing in hunger and abject poverty! However, for Innocent Idibia to have backpedalled at the dying minute, he had failed his fans! His withdrawal from the protest shows that he is a lily-livered personage. It shows that he never counted the cost of the protest before he made his intention known to the public! This is not good on his path because it will be a herculean task for him to win the confidence of his fans.
