EFCC RE-ARRESTS JOHN YUSSUF OVER $203 MILLION THEFT

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), on Monday re-arrested the convicted former Director of Pension in the Police Affair Ministry, Yakubu Yussuf over alleged involvement in another N300 million fraud. Mr. Rotimi Jacobs, the prosecutor for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), yesterday, brought a fresh four-count criminal charge against him before the Abuja Division of Federal High Court. The ex-pension boss in an earlier case where he was convicted, had pleaded guilty for conniving with seven other civil servants to steal about N27.2 billion from the police pension fund. He was remanded in custody till March when his case will come up again. In the earlier case, he was convicted and was to face a two year imprisonment but he was given an option to pay N750,000 in lieu of the two years imprisonment. He chose the option and paid the said sum of money from the breast pocket of his shirt without qualms.

Dear VME readers, do you think the option to pay N750,000 given to a man who connived with others to steal a whopping N27.2 billion justified? Will this serve as a deterrent to others or will it emboldens others to steal more? Please, leave your comments on the comment section.
