POPE BENEDICT XVI TO RESIGN ON FEBRUARY 28

Pope Benedict XVI has signified his intention to step down as Pope of the Catholic Church, come February 28, 2012. The Pope wishes to resign due to weak health caused by  old age. He became the first Pope to resign in 600 years. He is the 266th Pope in the papacy. Ghana’s Cardinal Peter Turkson, Nigeria’s Cardinal Francis Arinze, Canada’s Marc Ouelle and Italy’s Angelo Scola, will likely be his successor as election holds at the end of next month. The Pope said he would continue to serve the Catholic Church “through a life dedicated to prayer”. He will however revert to his former title of Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger upon his resignation Catholic Church in England said.
