Emmanuel Edekunu bags Olorogun of Evwreni Kingdom

Chief Edekunu being conferred as Olorogun

The quiet town of Evwreni in Ughelli North Local Government Area, Delta State was in festivity last Thursday. The town witnessed the gathering of the creme de la creme of the society as illustrious sons and daughters of Evwreni, friends and well wishers of Chief Emmanuel and Chief (Mrs.) Gladys Edekunu, gathered to felicitate with them.
It was the conferment of the title of Olorogun of Evwreni on Chief Emmanuel and his amiable wife, Chief (Mrs.) Gladys Edekunu. Clad in white attire, body rubbed with white native chalk and a white indigenous hand fan (adjudju) with inscription of Olorogun of Evwreni Kingdom in their right hands which are the symbols of purity, the couple danced round Evwreni Town as part of the rites preceding the conferment of the title. Relatives, friends and well-wishers that had thronged the town went agog and shouts of joy rented the air as they cheered and applauded the celebrants as they danced round the entire town of Evwreni as customs demand of those who are about to be conferred with the title of Olorogun or other titles.

After the dancing episode, the couple went to the Palace of His Royal Majesty (HRM), Ajuwe Oghenekevwe Owin Kumane, the Erevwedede 111 of Evwreni Kingdom, which was the venue for the occasion. Before the conferment was performed, special prayers of divine protection, peace, good health, long life, wealth etc. were offered by HRM, the Erevwedede 111. In addition, white powder was sprinkled on the faces and heads of the conferees as a symbol of peace. Thereafter, special beads were placed on the necks and hands of Chief Emmanuel and Chief (Mrs.) Gladys Edekunu as confirmation of the conferment of the title of Olorogun of Evwreni Kingdom. The special beads are symbols of recognition and authority of the title holder of Olorogun. With the conferment of Olorogun on Chief Emmanuel Edekunu and his wife, Chief (Mrs.) Gladys Edekunu, they have joined the list of chiefs holding the highest title in the entire Urhobo Land. Therefore, the couple now has the right to sit with kings and other holders of the Olorogun title within and outside Urhobo Land.
As aforesaid, the event attracted the high and mighty of the society. Kings from the various kingdoms of Urhobo Land attended the conferment. Those who were unavoidably absent were also well represented at the event. The Akparukun of Orogun Town was also represented. Surprised that the conferment of the title of Olorogun on Chief Emmanuel Edekunu and drew the sons and daughters of Evwreni, the Urhobos and Nigerians from far and wide? You shouldn’t be surprised because Chief Edekunu is a man with a large heart, a generous man and a philanthropist par excellence. There is no doubt about this because it is on record that Olorogun Edekunu has been sponsoring some indigent but brilliant students both at the lower and higher education levels. His magnanimity in this sphere of providing quality to indigent students is not limited to the indigenes of his immediate community of Evwreni but include students within and outside the Urhobo nation. Thus, the multitude of people that converged at Evwreni Town on that fateful day were there to give their support and reciprocate the kind gesture of Chief Edekunu whose generosity has touched and transformed so many lives. Thus, it was not a surprise that his honour as Olorogun of Evwreni Kingdom witnessed massive turnout of people both within and outside the Urhobo nation who came to share in the joy of the day.
Born fifty years ago, Olorogun Emmanuel Edekunu who is the MD/CEO of Makunu Oil and Allied Products Limited and Chairman, Grandee Enterprise Limited, started his business from the very scratch but grew them through meticulous and astute management. These companies grew to the enviable position they occupy presently through the observance of international best practices and giving attention to details.
Nevertheless, the success story of Olorogun Emmanuel Edekunu will not be complete without the mention of his affable and ever smiling wife. This is because behind every successful man there is a woman. Thus, Olorogun Edekun is adequately supported by his wife, a paragon of beauty, a woman of virtue, hence the title of Olorogun was jointly conferred on both of them as a testimony of their oneness and unity. Olorogun (Mrs.) Edekunu, heads the admin department of one of the fastest growing and formidable insurance companies in the country.
Victors Media Empire (VME) wishes Olorogun Emmanuel and Olorogun (Mrs.) Gladys Edekunu, peace, prosperity, good health and long life in their new status.
