                  Bring Back Our Girls Campaigners

It is unbelievable that the once vociferous and vigorous Bring Back Our Girls campaigners are no longer campaigning to bring back the abducted Chibok Girls! The silence of the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners began immediately after the presidential election was won by Mr. Muhammadu Buhari. No doubt, the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners were a thorn on the immediate past administration. But the questions rioting in the minds of Nigerians are: (1) Why did the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners suddenly become inactive after the presidential election was won by Gen. Muhammadu Buhari of the APC?
(2) Is the silence of the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners a confirmation that they are members of the All Progressive Congress and only went into a deep slumber after assisting the party to win the presidential election? (3) Was the objective of the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners to use the abducted Chibok Girls as a campaign tool to install the All Progressive Congress? (4) Should a pressure group like the Bring Back Our Girls group be partisan? (5) Should the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners be silent when the abducted Chibok Girls have not been freed? (6) Have the abducted Chibok Girls gained freedom or why have the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners suddenly become inactive and docile? (7) Is the silence of the group not a negation of one of its avowals not to quit the crusade “Until our girls are back and alive! Not without our daughters?”

The above questions are cogent and imperative because before the 2015 general elections, the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners were so visible, active and forceful in their demand on the immediate past government to bring back the abducted Chibok girls but today, nobody is hearing about their activities since they have become motionless, inactive and silent like a night after a midnight rain. The silence of the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners is an indication that the group was formed solely to install the APC into government and not to ensure the release of the Chibok Girls! If it is not so why is the silence? But this silence is worrisome because it shows only two things-partisanship and politics! But should a weighty matter such as the abduction of the innocent Chibok Girls that touched the soul of all parents especially women who know the pangs and pains of bringing babies into this world be politicised? Doesn’t the silence show insensitivity of the campaigners to the plight and pains of the parents of the abducted Chibok Girls? It is even more worrisome that Nigerians who eulogised the ill-advised activities of the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners are not asking questions as to the reason behind the quietness of the campaigners when the girls have not be released. Wouldn’t it have been better for the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners to have continued with the protests until this administration effect the release of the girls since government is continuum?

One may wonder why this writer describes the activities of the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners as ill-advised. The campaigns of the Bring Back Our Girls as targeted against the immediate past administration was ill-advised because there is nowhere in the world where such a barbaric act will occur and the citizens will protest against the government who knew nothing about the abduction rather they would protest against the abductors to release the girls! Why have the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners not protested against this administration to bring back the Chibok Girls since its assumption in office? Is government no longer continuum? Does the end of the last administration also mean the end to the demand for the release of the innocent Chibok Girls? Again, why have the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners not protested against the APC led government to bring back all the various prominent and ordinary Nigerians that have been kidnapped since the inauguration of this administration on May 29, 2015 since government must be held responsible for every crime that is committed?  

No doubt, some of the Bring Back Our Girls campaigners used the platform as a ladder to  ascend political offices and this is unfortunate. The Bring Back Our Girls campaigners should resume its activities in earnest until the innocent Chibok Girls are released if they do not want to lose their credibility and relevance. Anything short of this will indeed lead to incredibility of the campaigners.
