Godwin Obaseki, has won the All
Progressive Congress governorship primaries held yesterday in Benin City, the
Edo State capital. Obaseki got 1, 608 votes to defeat his closest rival and
incumbent Deputy Governor, Dr. Pius Odubu who pulled 471 votes. Charles
Airhiavbere who was also the governorship candidate under the PDP in the last
governorship election held in 2012 but lost to the incumbent Governor Adams
Oshiomhole received a paltry 11 votes. Barr. Kenneth Imasuagbo garnered 247
votes, Chris Ogiemwonyi polled 137 votes, former governor of the state under
the PDP, Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor got nine votes and Blessing Agbomhere got
five votes. Prof. Ebegue Amadasun received eight votes, Emmanuel Arigbe-Osula
garnered 10 votes, Austin Emuan got seven votes and former President of the
Trade Union Congress, Mr. Peter Esele polled eight votes. The only woman in the
contest, Tina Agbarah polled three votes.
